Air Crash Investigations

Jul. 9th, 2008 | 02:11 am
Feeling: nerdy nerdy
Tunes: Tricky - "Veronika"

I love this show. I remember most people at work would watch it and then we'd all talk about it in the lunch room the next day. Haha! It makes you wonder how many people within the airline industry watch this show.

Obviously, if you have a fear of flying, then you shouldn't watch this show. Most of the flights shown are older crashes, when aircraft were not as high tech as they are today and sometimes, were caused because maintenance procedures were not as strict and thorough as they should have been (and are today).

Sadly, you'd probably never be able to watch an episode of the show on any airline's onboard entertainment system. Though, I'd laugh if I was ever proven wrong and did find it being played on a flight somewhere. Heh.

Though, I reckon it would be fine to play Airplane! and Airplane II onboard. Cos, come on. It's not like it's Passenger 57 or Alive. It's a spoof movie where a queue forms in order to slap a hysterical woman, and there's a disturbing epidemic onboard where those afflicted regurgitate whole eggs, shell and all. And let's not forget the pedophile pilot. Heh. But my point is that while the movie is set onboard a flight in trouble, it's not really disturbing.

So, it goes without saying that if you have a fear of flying, please DO NOT watch the YouTube videos below. No point in scaring yourself silly.

Hmmm. Tonight's episode was about a Russian International Airline crash in 1994. Seems the main cause was because there was no alarm to inform the pilots that the autopilot was turned off. They had no idea that when the first pilot's 15-year-old son sat in the pilot's seat and took hold of the controls, that his attempts to turn the plane left while the autopilot was on actually switched it off. And then, when the plane started to nosedive and stall, the pilots weren't trained to just let the control column go. They weren't aware that had they let the steering column (I think that's what it's called) go, the plane's system would've taken over, taken the aircraft out of the nosedive/stall and right itself automatically.

My favourite recent episode was when an American Airlines aircraft's cargo door broke open mid-flight. Because of the door breaking open, the floor where the passengers were partially collapsed, knocking out most of the wires that allowed the pilot to control the rudders and wing flaps. Somehow, even though the pilot had almost no control over the plane, he was able to land safely:

Insane stuff. Heh.

This is my favourite Air Crash Investigations landing. It kinda made me laugh and want to smack the kids' heads at the same time. Watch the video and you'll see why:

The episode is called The Gimli Glider. Heh. Watch the next part for the rest of the landing. But yeah. God only knows why those kids thought they could outrun a plane on their bikes. *shakes head* But yeah. Because the guy in charge of calculating how much fuel the aircraft needed got his math wrong, the plane had half the amount of fuel it needed for the flight. Its engines shut off mid-flight and yet the (AMAZING) pilot was able to land the Boeing 767 without killing anyone.

And now, for something not plane related at all...

"But I ain't a French oral. I'm an English oral!"

Jul. 8th, 2008 | 02:05 am
Feeling: nerdy nerdy

I'd warn about spoilers and put things behind a cut, but the one person I know who is a Doctor Who fan on my Friends List is already way ahead of me in terms of episodes seen so it really isn't necessary.

Staal: We have an intruder!
Doctor: How did he get in? In-tru-dah window?

*giggles* And the pun really makes the best sense when you remember that it's said with a British accent so 'intruder' sounds like 'intrudah'. Hehe!

Doctor: And your name?
Staal: General Staal of the Tenth Sontaran Battle Fleet. Staal the Undefeated.
Doctor: That's not a very good nickname. What if you do get defeated? "Staal-The-Not-Quite-So-Undefeated-Anymore-But-Never-Mind"?

Oh I love the script writers of this show. And David Tennant for executing the lines so well. Heh.

And oh my god. He has a daughter. And he thought she'd died. But she didn't. Shame it doesn't seem like she'll ever appear on the show again.

Oh god. I've just spent five hours straight watching Season 4 Doctor Who episodes. So, so, so very good. Plus, it helps seeing Martha again. Though, they did say something about all three current series companions being on an episode together but so far, it's just been little teases. Mostly in The Poison Sky where Donna and Martha were with The Doctor, and there was one second of Rose (Billie Piper) flashing on the computer screen. And in the first episode of this series where they showed Rose looking upset and worried.

And cos I'm full of nerdy love for the wonderful Catherine Tate as Donna Noble (the smart arse one-liners are so damn perfect when they come from her), I'm linking to some BBC videos on YouTube, worshipping her comedy brilliance. They're from The Catherine Tate Show cos that's all I know of her work. So far. Heh.

* Lauren Cooper working at the Burger Bar - Warning: There's a teeny tiny bit of American-bashing. It's really blink or you'll miss it, especially seeing as she talks so fast.
* Lauren Cooper is dumped at the altar - Warning: She sings "My Heart Will Go On" really badly, and you may find this offensive if you're religious.
* Lauren Cooper's French oral exam - Warning: Some insulting of the French. But this is my favourite of the Lauren skits because there's few things funnier than hearing her say "Am I bothered?" in French. Or really, speaking French with her accent. Hehehe! "I. Don't. Know. Aks. Me. In English." *giggles* Not a typo. That's how she pronounces "ask". [info]sleeplessgirl83 should be able to understand this seeing as she knows French. LOL!

The video is not very good quality. The link is to the official upload by the BBC so it's better quality.

Lauren Cooper's new English teacher should be familiar. I'm sure I would've paid lots more attention in my English class (not that I didn't pay attention in English - my teacher loved me) if David Tennant was my teacher. Hehe!

Oh god. The Doctor Who joke, while lame, made me laugh. "Do you fancy Billie Piper sir?" "Have you park the Tardis on a meter?" "Looketh at my face." "Are you disrespectin' the house of Cooper? Are thou calling my mother a pox-ridden wench? Are thou calling my father a goodly rotten apple?" "My liege, I be not bothered. Forsooth, I be not bothered." "Bite me alien boy!" And that sonnet she recited? I remember studying that when I was 15 or 16. Haha! Laughed at the end when Mr Logan turned her into a Rose action figure. LMAO!

The very first Lauren Cooper skit I saw. The cheerleader moves made me laugh, as did the way she spoke. And what made me laugh about this particular video is the fact that it plays "Teenagers" at the end. Hahaha!

"Are you gay sir?" LOL!

Okay. I'll end my geeky fangirling here. More Doctor Who will be watched tomorrow. *rubs hands in glee*

Tunes: Wimbledon Men's Singles Final

Fred Stolle pointing out Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani in Roger Federer's team box. Gavin's sitting next to Roger's girlfriend.

It's weird cos Stolle is 70 years old (b 1938), and I can just see him in the commentator's box, looking down on a piece of paper given to him by an assistant, squinting to read the handwriting with the names. Heh.

Meanwhile, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Federer. GO ROGER GO!

However, it's the first set, Nadal's broken Federer once and Federer hasn't been able to break him back. It's deuce number three, and if Nadal wins this game, he'll be up a set.

*watches nervously*

...Break point Federer. Can he convert?

Fuck. Deuce number four.

Shit. Nadal won the opening set 6-4. Federer has a helluva fight on his hands methinks. This should be exciting.

Doctor Who

Feeling: geeky geeky
Tunes: Doctor Who Confidential

I miss Martha like hell, but Donna is fabulous and Catherine Tate is fucking awesome.

David Tennant is still delicious.

I've got the first twelve episodes of Season 4 downloaded. Better get started on watching them. Heh.

P.S. The adipose are kinda adorable. Hehe!

P.P.S. Anthony Head's voice is still yummy to listen to.

Tunes: oven alarm going off

My favourite theory about the whole Ray-Toro-and-his-son-Bauer situation. I love that this caused such a big, though short-lived, fandom explosion. *giggles*

I can't wait for Dr Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. Joss is doing another musical, and it involves Nathan Fillion wearing funny-but-awesome superhero-type gloves:

One more pic of the Whedon brothers, one of the writers and the three main cast members. )

Yeah. I'm excited about a musical. Heh.

Right now, I'm baking scones with dark chocolate chips. Had some chips left over from a tin that were supposed to be used for making hot chocolate. Smells delish and it should be ready to come out of the oven in another minute. Yum.

I bet it would taste so good with Nutella. Hehehe!

**EDIT 3:47pm**

Nutella tastes good, as does peanut butter.

But nothing beats strawberry jam and whipped cream. Especially on choc-chip scones. Yum.

Is this weird?

Jul. 3rd, 2008 | 06:29 pm
Feeling: cold cold

I received the weirdest text from Bekki about five minutes ago, asking me what Thai food she eats. Oookay, I thought. We've never eaten at a Thai restaurant (cos there aren't any good ones in our area) so I thought I'd take a wild guess and recommend something to her (something in a peanut sauce; stay away from the curries). She replied back that she meant the Vietnamese noodle house I introduced her to.

Answer? Seafood in oyster sauce with egg noodles. Sometimes she asks for extra vegetables.

Yes, I know what Bekki always orders from there off by heart. Why? Because one, I usually do the ordering. And two, anyone who spends time with Bekki knows that she is a really, really, really fussy eater. So when we go out, I tend to remember what she orders and enjoys so that I'll have a mental list of eateries to suggest when we're hungry and she doesn't know what she wants. For example, Indian = butter chicken, Turkish = mushroom and chicken pide, Vietnamese = above, and Chillis = we share the Triple Play entree. If all else fails, there's always Maccas or Hungry Jacks, and I'm trying to convince her to try gnocchi cos it's potato, not pasta, so it shouldn't make her sick and it'll mean we can go to a pasta place sometimes.

Me, I'm the complete opposite. So long as it doesn't contain liver or it's not horse meat (never again), I can eat any type of food (I have been known to eat some pretty tender and delicious chicken feet at my favourite yum cha restaurant, and sea urchin at my favourite sushi place). Thank god cos otherwise, we'd never agree on a place to eat and will just starve.

New Band Of The Day: One For The Team - Indie rock. Cute. The music is cheery and makes me smile.

Feeling: dorky dorky

So, have a lovely list of new music. Found courtesy of a couple of music groups that I've joined recently.

Vanna - They're not really metal, despite what it says under their band name on their MySpace. They call themselves post-hardcore in their bio though, so I'm gonna go with that. Pretty frickin cool to be honest. Guitars are nice and heavy, and the vocalist (unlike the band whose MySpace I visited just before this one) is actually really good.

Norma Jean - Hard rock? Metal? Who cares. They sound fucking amazing. Anyone in the vicinity of Atlanta, Georgia, or at any of the cities they'll be performing at while on the Warped Tour, should go see them.

Brief chat to [info]unit92 Friday night while he was getting ready to go out for expensive, drunken beef. Yes. One of the things that apparently make this beef so good is that they get the cows shit-faced on beer and sake during their lifetime before killing them for their meat. Wagyu taste good y/y?

Anyway, though our conversation was brief, he still had more than enough time to give me a couple of gems that either made me laugh, or made me laugh while yelling out "WHAT THE FUCK?!".

Yeah. I know. I'm juvenile for finding this funny. Fuck you. I know you're trying not to smile/laugh at it.

This was what made me laugh while yelling out "WHAT THE FUCK?!" It doesn't contain any sex in it, but what's being said (as in the subject matter that's being spoken about) is not worksafe. However, there is nothing in this to traumatise anyone so for those who are fragile *looks at [info]sleeplessgirl83* rest assured that this will not make you want to retch. It's just, you get to meet a very unique couple who are willing to talk openly about their particular kink.

Jim Lee's new profile song is "Famous Last Words" by My Chemical Romance. Most probably in honour of the late Michael Turner.

Favourite excerpt from slash for this week:

"Mikeyyy," Frank half rasped and half whined, huffing into his hand, his breath rising in the air. "Mikey it's fucking cold outside. I think my balls are freezing off. I think I lost Freddy and Jason's only barely holding on.” He stamped his feet in a stupid cold dance. “Let me in. Your fucking cats won't open the door."

It took Mikey a moment to understand what Frank was talking about. Most of what he said was a hazy blur in his brain, but he heard foreign names and rewound in his head and realized- the fucker was talking about his balls.

*giggles* Why is it that it's not too hard to imagine that there are guys out there who would name their balls?

Which reminds me, what did you think of Blackbird [info]sleeplessgirl83?

Now I know that Bekki's been waiting for this, and I've finally gotten round to posting it. It's my dad's recipe for that chicken dish that I made and got Bekki to taste.

APRITADA

Ingredients
1kg of chicken drumsticks/chicken thigh fillet/pork chops cut up into smaller pieces (approx 10cms)
1 onion, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
pepper
soy sauce
1-2 bay leaves, dried
water
potato/sweet potato, peeled and chopped into big pieces
capsicum (or sweet bell peppers for the Americans), chopped

Heat up a pan and when hot, put in the onions and tomatoes, then the meat on top. Add about a cup of water, approximately 50mls of soy sauce (I normally just fill the cooking spoon that we use with soy sauce to the top - probably about the size of the black spoon in this photo), pepper to taste and 1 large or 2 medium sized bay leaves. When it boils, lower the temperature on the stove a bit and put the lid on. Allow to simmer until the meat is tender, mixing occassionally to ensure that all parts of the meat have time to simmer in the sauce. When the meat is tender, put in about 25-30mls of soy sauce (or approximately half the cooking spoon) and add the vegetables in. Cover again and leave on a low heat to simmer until the vegetables are tender. Serve. (You can also fish the bay leaves out of the dish and throw them out at this point, but I never bother with that. I just make sure I don't accidentally eat one of them.)

Voila! Easy peasy! Now Bekki can make it at home so her mum can make non-chicken dishes and people in her household can stop complaining that there's too many chicken dishes being cooked for dinner. And maybe one day I'll let her film me cooking this dish, but that's unlikely.

There's also a yummy radish and pork dish my dad likes to cook and which I love to eat, but I don't know if I should post the recipe up here. It's delicious, but the smell of radish is not pleasant. LOL!

Meanwhile, one of the knobs on our stove (and it's the one we use the most often too!) is broken. Now while this is not really that bad, I've also been told not to use the oven so no baking allowed. I've also called my version of scones Daddy Scones because my dad is the one who suggested I add an egg to the recipe to make the scones more moist inside. I know that this takes away from the traditional scones recipe, but it doesn't bother me too much cos it means that my parents love the scones I make and eat them for afternoon tea.

Besides, my dad can't help but interfere. I relented on the egg issue, but drew the line at spraying the pan with oil. Sorry, but eww. I don't want my scones to taste of oil, so I'll stick to using flour to stop them from sticking to the pan thank you very much. I mean, fair enough, my dad had a second job at a bakery for a while soon after we moved to Australia because it meant extra cash, but he has to let me do things my way sometimes. Hehe.

Hmmm. I bet the scones would taste nice with choc chips. Or blueberries.

To those individuals knowledgeable about computers on my Friends list, aka To all 'puter geeks

Jul. 1st, 2008 | 11:58 pm
Feeling: stupid stupid
Tunes: Modern Day Escape - "Love Is A Perfect Murder"

I am seriously frustrated at the moment. I have a spindle of DVD+R (because that is apparently the only type my dvd burner drive recognises) discs (just the standard in-house brand from Strathfield Car Radios) and I'm trying to burn some data discs so I can empty out my external harddrive. The shitty thing is that I've only been successful twice at burning data discs so far, and everything else just doesn't get recognised by the drive when I stick it back in to check if it's burnt okay. As in the Autoplay doesn't come up and I can't look into what is on the disc manually through My Computer. This is despite Nero telling me that the burning process was completed successfully. Every time.

FYI, I'm using Nero Express Version 6.

I have reached the end of my patience. I am sick of wasting dvd discs because the data is not being burnt onto them properly (and I've checked on the family pc, and that pc's dvd drive doesn't even register the disc as being there), and I just really, really want to burn these so I can clear out my external. I can't afford to buy another external HDD at the moment, so the data discs are the cheaper option. Plus, one of the things I'm burning onto discs are six seasons of Bleach plus the movie for my cousin.

Any help provided will be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what else I can do to make this work.

Feeling: hyper hyper

Woke up this morning to my dad telling me that a package had arrived for me. Inside were two huge bags of red Twizzlers. I'm not ashamed to admit that I squealed. Hehe!

Oh Annie. Thanks to you, I now regularly get a little hyper thanks to the sugar high I get. You totally rock m'dear. XD

Speaking of licorice, I have never tried black licorice until recently. If you've ever read Boy by Roald Dahl, you'll know why. Even though I know it's not true, I can't help but think of rats when I think of black licorice.

Well, Awesome Annie sent me a bag of black Twizzlers. I tried one and could barely finish it. I told Bekki this and she looked at me as if I were crazy. Hell, she asked me if I was crazy. She loves black licorice, and can't understand how I could not. Well, she encouraged me to try them again, and fuck me, they grew on me. More than that, I started to like them. A lot.

Fuck you and your evil influence Rebecca. *glares*

I don't think red Twizzlers do anything to you, but if you see me with a blackish tongue, you know that I've been at the black Twizzlers again. Hehehe!

Meanwhile, parents arrived back from their holiday yesterday. This is good, because it means that my dad is going to be cooking again. I love my dad's cooking. ^_^

Next post, I'll hopefully remember to post my dad's recipe for the chicken dish that Bekki tried at my house on Tuesday, which she apparently really liked.

George Carlin died *sniffs*

George Carlin Dead at 71

I know him only from playing the Cardinal who came up with the Buddy Christ in Dogma and the hitchhiker who sucks dicks for rides in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but those were some of my favourite funny characters so this news really makes me sad. The impression of him that I got was someone who had a sharp tongue and a sharp mind, and wasn't afraid to use both when it was deserved.

It's been a long day, aka Supanova 2008

Jun. 22nd, 2008 | 02:35 am
Feeling: exhausted exhausted
Tunes: Royal Trux - "Inside Game"

So, as you all know, my day started off not that great. Didn't get much sleep at all and poor Roland woke up with a sore throat so he couldn't come.

Still, stopped off at Roland's house to give him a hug and assure him that there would always be next year. He also had his mum give me money and a list of the animes he liked (top of the list was Ben 10) so that if I saw anything that related to what he liked, I could get it for him. Hehe!

Set off and got to Ashfield to pick up Matthew and Daniel. Got a huge hug from both and an "I missed you Ate!" from Daniel. Love my boys!

Jumped back in the car again and spend most of it talking to Matthew about anime. Namely Death Note, which I have just found out he likes after seeing the tv series. I've told him to read the manga cos it's frickin' amazing. He also got excited to hear that they were airing the new spin-off movie L: Change the WorLd at Supanova today. I was just excited about seeing KenMatsu on a nice big screen. He is absolutely the best guy for the job of playing L.

Got to the venue and had a little disagreement with the damn parking ticket machine. It apparently no longer accepts coins other than $1 and $2 coins, which sure as hell wasn't the case last year. Grrr! Finally got that sorted out and found the venue. Actually found a HUGE (for Supanova) line outside. It seems that attendance is high this year, probably because of Jared Padalecki. We ended up having to be in the queue for ten minutes, which is insane considering that the two years I've gone to this event, there's never been a queue more than five people long. Today, it stretched around the courtyard. Hilarious stuff.

Finally made it inside with five minutes to spare before the L movie was due to air. We made our way straight to the Madman Anime Theatre (really just a large screen erected on a stage in front of some stands and fold-out chairs) where it was going to be screened. Laughed cos the Supanova staff presenting the movie was actually dressed (very well) as L, and when he asked for questions, someone put their hand up asking to shake his hand. He seemed a bit shocked at this but granted the request. Then someone, this time a person actually dressed up as L as well, requested a hug so Presenter L jumped down to grant L1 a hug. As L1 pulled away, another L aka L2 ran forward and hugged Presenter L as well. As L2 pulled away, Presenter L was jumped from behind by a third L, L3 sporting a sign on his back saying "GLOMP ME". L3 jumped at Presenter L's back, hugging him hard. Poor Presenter L looked so shocked at this and ran off to where the other staff were as soon as L3 let go. Matthew and I got a great laugh out of that. Then the three of us all had a laugh cos we spotted a couple of adults dressed up as Mario and Luigi. I found it especially funny cos Mario was female and Luigi was Asian. Aww'ed cos I spotted a couple of cute kids in costume, one dressed as Mario and the other in a pretty good Link costume.

The movie finally started and it was great, though we couldn't hear the bits in english cos the subtitles were only for the Japanese. Laughed cos behind and to the left of the screen/stage, there was a light set up, the kind of light that you would see in a photography studio. So that during the movie, the three of us would see a photographer walking up to the set up with various people in costume to take photos of them. We saw a pretty awesome Darth Vader, Spiderman, Superman, a couple of Boba Fetts, storm troopers and a group of four sandpeople get their photos taken.

Back to the movie. Loved it. Laughed especially when Maki told L that he should stand up straight to improve his posture. Let's just say that KenMatsu's interpretation of L walking while standing up straight looks like he has a pole with a diameter of a foot stuck up his arse. Hilarious stuff. I'm going to see if I can find a legitimate copy of the movie to download (my last attempt to find it only brought up files containing viruses), and then buy the dvd when it comes out. It was fantastic and Near was adorable. No Mello, but Maki vaguely resembled him (except for the fact that Maki was a girl of course - and wasn't a sociopath).

After the movie, walked around a bit to see what the queues were like at the autograph table. The queues were HUGE cos of Padalecki, and most of them were girls (surprise, surprise). Bekki was so damn right though. Wii is a terrific babysitter. Quickly left them there while I went to the Dead Space stand and got Ben Templesmith to sign my copy of the first issue of Dead Space. He looked at it and exclaimed, "Is this an original copy of the comic?! You actually paid for this?!" I laughed and said that yes, I did. He seemed chuffed about it, especially when I honestly told him that the reason why I bought it in the first place was because of the amazing image on the front cover. It's true. I had no idea what the comic was about. I just bought it because I loved the cover. Anyway, he screwed up the spelling of my name ("Marien" instead of "Mariel"), so he gave me one of the free editions of the issue and autographed that. Also grabbed a free edition of the second issue and a small poster of the first issue cover, both of which he signed. I thanked him profusely as I left. Really nice guy, and quite pretty.

Returned back to the Wii booth and talked to Matthew and Daniel about whether they were happy to stay at there while I went and stood in a boring line for Jewel Staite's autograph, and of course, they were more than willing to stay there. I left to queue up and get the autograph, and while there found out that the cost of having a photo taken with one of the guests was also $30. Unless it was Padalecki. They were charing $50 for a photo with him. Makes you wonder exactly how much his appearance fee was. =P

Had my thirty seconds with Jewel Staite. She was absolutely lovely and signed my comic very nicely. Also told me that she'd only arrived a day and a half ago, and that she was in Sydney for a total of twelve days to take in some of the sights while she was here. Told her that I loved her in Firefly and was looking forward to seeing her in Stargate: Atlantis. She was an absolute sweetie to everyone. Waited for people to be the one to signal that they were leaving and happily answered questions put to her.

Made my way straight back to the Wii booth and asked the boys if they were hungry. They both were, and we decided on pizza from the Dominos booth. What surprised me was that Daniel was hungry because last year, he refused to eat anything and ended up eating two cheeseburgers when we stopped at a Maccas on the way home. No such trouble this year. He happily ate a large slice of Hawaiian (though is mum did also tell me before we left that morning that she told him he had to eat well at lunch or else she wouldn't allow him to go again next year), while Matthew and I happily scoffed down some Meatosaurus and Hawaiian slices. Also made sure that Daniel only had a Diet Coke rather than normal Coke because the sugar in soft drinks makes him difficult and overly hyperactive. The last time I let him drink normal Coke (before I found out what it did to him), he wouldn't leave Matthew alone until Matthew finally lost his temper and hit him back, causing Daniel to get upset. So yeah. No sugared soft drinks. Only diet or Max/Zero.

Walked around the whole place to walk off lunch. Poor Matthew had bought more pizza than he could handle, and I was worried that he would throw up if he kept on forcing the food down in an effort to finish it. We stopped at every booth the boys found interesting, mostly ones containing anime/manga related toys and dvds, and stayed at each booth until they told me they were done and ready to move on. Also had a quick browse at the booth with collectible toys. Seems no one wants to buy Wesley figures from the Angel series. Poor Wesley. Saw some cute Futurama Bender and Leela figures too, and tiny Death Note figurines featuring Light, two Ls, Misa, Ryuuk and Rem. Quite expensive though, so instead I just bought the Death Note movie dvd set from the Madman booth for $35. I'd seen it at Ezydvd for $45, so I was quite happy at the price.

Looked around the Kings Comics booth with the boys. Saw Cute Comic Store Guy aka Scott, and thought his new haircut was cute. It was pretty much a short version of the one he already had. Text Bekki to let her know that the guy she loves to perve on when we go to Kings was here. LOL!

Daniel kept asking to go back to the Wii booth while we walked around because he was watching people play the new Super Smash Bros game but Matthew and I wanted to walk around and see everything and I'm not prepared to leave Daniel on his own. He shut up pretty quick though when he saw toys for some new card game that he likes (similar to Yu-Gi-Oh card games). Matthew had bought a Gundam Seed figurine and a stuffed toy of a yellow creature from one of his favourite animes (don't ask which anime cos I have no idea). He used the spending money that was allocated for Daniel because Daniel hadn't expressed interest in anything other than playing Wii. However, all that was screwed when Daniel saw a starter pack for this card game he likes so I bought it for him. Matthew ended up ringing their mum to check if it was okay to also buy Daniel the launcher to be fair, because Matthew had bought two things so it wouldn't be great for Daniel if he only came home with one new toy. Their mum agreed so I bought the launcher for him too.

Stopped by the XBox 360 booth so they could watch some arcade-style fighting game that apparently contains some Star Wars characters in addition to the original non-Star-Wars-related characters. Also tried to get Matthew to sit at one of the PCs at the gaming area and play Call Of Duty 4, but he says he doesn't like playing it on the PC. Matthew also spotted a sign saying $20 off the Ben 10 video game at the EB booth so I went and got that for Roland's DS seeing as there were no Ben 10 watches to be found.

Returned back to the Wii booth where numbers had dwindled and Matthew and Daniel eventually ended up with a controller each, playing Super Smash Bros. Had a browse of the Kings Comics booth again nearby (much easier to do without a nine-year-old asking repeatedly to go play Wii), then over to the PS3 SingStar booth to have a laugh. Cringed cos some guy dressed up as the Joker in the style of the upcoming movie and his two friends thought it would be a great idea to sing "Something Stupid". It was awful, and some guy in a Master Commander (I think that's what Matthew called it) costume from Halo ordered the group to get off the little stage as soon as they were done. Pictures of that moment as well as two people in impressive costumes as characters I don't recognise behind the cut.

Taken with the camera on my phone seeing as my parents have my camera with them overseas at the moment. )

Boys eventually had enough of playing Wii and told me they were ready to go home. We left at about 5:30 and drove back to their flat. Had dinner there and watched Daniel ignore everyone else in favour of his new toys. Chatted for a little while with their mum cos she's great and really easy to talk to, before I left at 8pm. Got to Erica's 40 minutes later and gave Roland his new video game. He was very happy with that, as well as all the free posters featuring Mario, Luigi, Sonic, Pixar and Storm Hawk that I got him. We settled in and watched the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Remembered why I loved Simon and Theodore, but mostly missed the old 80s cartoons that my brother and I used to watch when we were kids.

Eventually made it home at midnight, absolutely exhausted. Now here I am, listening to the High Fidelity OST because [info]colourfulponies got me in a Nick Hornby mood. She met him when he came into her work and had a nice little chat with him about his books, the movie adaptations of his books, and how he still gets scared whenever he releases a new book. How lucky is she!

Heh. My parents text me tonight from Canada. Seems they were about to go outlet store shopping across the border for the day and asked me if there was anything I would like. Just told her to get me whatever she thinks I may like, and that if she has a chance to go to a Roots store before leaving Vancouver, to see if they have any bags that have a beaver on it. Cos yeah, I'm that immagure immature that I find that funny. I remember the first time I went into a Roots store on my first trip to Vancouver, and had a quiet giggle at the canvas bag with the beaver on it. Hehe!

Just a quickie.

Jun. 21st, 2008 | 08:43 am
Feeling: busy busy

Got a call this morning from my godmother/Roland's mum. Apparently, he's been in tears since he woke up this morning because he's got a sore throat and therefore, cannot come to Supanova. Poor boy. I'm stopping by his house to give him a hug before I go. Plus, he wants to give me money and a list of things to look out for and get for him if I see them. I've already reassured him that there is always next year.

I feel so bad for him. He was really looking forward to it.

Meanwhile, I got about six hours sleep last night. After I woke up at 12:30am, I went back to bed about an hour later and tried to sleep, but kept catching only snatches of sleep here and there and constantly waking up. So, feeling a tad living dead-ish this morning, but no headache/migraine thank god.

Going to bed REALLY early tonight.

Jun. 20th, 2008 | 08:22 pm
Feeling: sick sick

Been feeling like crap for most of the day. I've gone and gotten antibiotics for my tonsilitus (looks pointedly at [info]sleeplessgirl83) and started dosing myself up on Panadol because Bekki says that tonsilitus is usually accompanied by fever and headaches. Oh joy.

Also pretty much had a migraine today, though on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is a mild migraine and a 10 is the one that usually keeps me confined in bed in a quiet, dark room where I spend the day sleeping, this was pretty much a 1. Not too bad. I could still do shit like drive and get stuff done, but I couldn't stand for long periods of time or I'll get dizzy and I still had the nausea. Ended up throwing up three times tonight - twice while Bekki was over at my place and a third time straight after she left. I literally closed the front door after waving goodbye before she even got into her car and ran to the bathroom.

It's weird being able to recognise what you had for afternoon tea and lunch by its colour.

Feeling like shit now, so I'll probably go to bed soon. I was going to jump on IM, but I really don't feel well enough to sit at my desk chatting. I'm really just ready to snuggle under my quilt and sleep the pain in my head away. Jeebus. I don't think I've gone to bed at 8:30 since I was 12.

Can't afford to have a migraine tomorrow. I have Supanova and an almost-teenager and two little boys counting on me to take them.

Still, the visit from Bekki did cheer me up heaps.

Finally. The write up about Bekki's party. And other stuff too.

Jun. 19th, 2008 | 11:58 pm
Feeling: crappy crappy

So, Bekki's party was fun and interesting. There was drama, tension, alcohol and Tigger running around and actually being social. Oh, and party pies and sausage rolls. Heh.

Won't go into the detail about the drama cos it's not my place, so instead I'll go into the night's ultimate What The Fuck moment. If you're on [info]sleeplessgirl83's LJ, then you already know what I'm talking about courtesy of her video blog. For those that aren't, then let me fill you in.

You see, towards the end of the night, we put on Guitar Hero. Bec and Sarah were battling it out over Guns 'n' Roses' "Sweet Child Of Mine" when the girl sitting next to me, Claire, remarked how she had only heard that song for the first time last week. Fair enough. She's only about 16 so I don't expect her to have automatically known the song, or even have heard of Guns 'n' Roses. But what got me was that after she said she'd only just heard that song, I asked her if she'd heard any other Gunnies songs like "November Rain". Her reply was, "Oh no. I don't like emo music."

*listens to crickets chirping*

....She called Guns 'n' Roses emo. I'm pretty sure my mouth dropped open and my mind went completely blank from shock. Cos fuck. She just called Guns 'n' Roses emo.

When my brain could work again, I told her that they weren't emo. Bec, mid-battle, even turned to Claire and said that the Gunnies were classic rock. I think I would've laughed if I hadn't been in such shock.

Anyway, the party ended soon after that. It was a fun night though, despite the drama. Bekki sang "Dance, Dance" by Fall Out Boy on SingStar, as well as "Helena" by MCR. And some weird dance song. Oh oh oh! And she sang "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" by the Scissor Sisters, a song that I love so much!

Uploaded a new video for those interested. It's footage filmed by Dark Horse of Gerard's Umbrella Academy signings in New York and Boston last year to promote the release of the first issue.

Oh poor Worm. What he has to do to earn a buck. What I don't understand is why Gerard didn't just try to rub the dog shit off by rubbing his shoe against grass like any normal person would.

Scott Allie's hair fascinates me. I can't stop watching it. It's amazing. Heh.

I love Scott Allie's mum's accent! It's just like George Costanza's mum's in Seinfeld. It's so cute!

I've caught tonsilitus off Bekki. Motherfucker. She's like Typhoid Mary. Grrrr! And the bitch has no sympathy whatsoever! This is the second time she's made me sick. The first time was when I visited her while she had a cold to try and cheer her up. *pouts* What a meanie.

Despite the tonsilitus, I'm going to Supanova this Saturday. I wasn't planning on going but last night, while out grocery shopping, my cousin Daniel rang me on my mobile, asking if I could take him and his brother. See, I took them last year, and they apparently had such a great time that they wanted to go again this year. Not only that, but Daniel had apparently been nagging his mum to ask me since last week! How sweet is that! LOL! So of course, I can't deny their request. Will also be bringing my cousin/godson Roland for the first time. I went two years ago with his sister Erica, but his parents deemed him to be too young at the time to be out with us without them so he missed out. Even now, being ten years old, they still took some convincing. Still, Roland rang me tonight to tell me that he was coming. He'll have fun. Cos not only are there toys and figurines, but there's the Wii booth where he hopes that the Super Smash Bros will be available to try out. Plus the costume and Kamehameha competitons.

Oh, and due to Hayden Panettiere not being able to make it to Supanova, they got Jared Padalecki instead. Hmmm. Might get his autograph as well as Jewel Staite's.

Weird music fact: Before the Iraq War, Saddam Hussein used an Arabic translation of the Dolly Parton song "I Will Always Love You" (yes, the one covered by Whitney Houston for The Bodyguard) as his re-election campaign song.

Feeling: drained drained
Tunes: Yael Naim - "New Soul"

He had Jim Motherfucking Lee at his wedding. And Gerard had a photo taken with him. Lucky bastard.

I love that Jim's tie matches his date's dress. And the dude in the background pulling the face.

Fuck. Jim Fucking Lee. Jeebus.

Ye gods. I'm so determined to go to Armageddon now.

Meanwhile, this just had me laughing:

The first porno cartoon. Made in the late 1920s. There's not just het sex, but accidental gay sex and bestiality. Hilariously funny. *snickers*

Mmmmm. My hair smells of bubblegum.

Write up about Bekki's party next entry. And hopefully, she'll post that video blog she did last night.

I just answered the door and a delivery guy was there with a lovely, heavy package for me. I looked and, god love you [info]anniebean, you even put "licorice" on the customs declaration! Hahahaha!

Oh my god. Twizzlers. *nuzzles* Oh, I'm so going to be on a sugar high for the rest of the day... Useful for grocery shopping and cooking mac and cheese. LOL!

Your card is soooo sweet too! I've to it standing up on my desk. The flowers make me smile. ^_^

It was funny though, cos when I opened it, a pamphlet from the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service fell out too. Seems that the sniffer dogs may have gotten curious over the package and they opened it for inspection. Nothing was removed, but I just thought it was really funny that they would inspect lollies.

LOVE YOU ANNIBEAN! *glomps and huggles and cuddles and molests, then sends Ray Toro over to sex you up until you pass out, then sex you up some more when you wake up*

GUNTHER'S BACK! XD

Jun. 9th, 2008 | 11:00 pm
Feeling: nerdy nerdy

Sydney people, turn to SBS right now! Dr Gunther von Hagens is back!

If you don't know who that is, Dr von Hagens was the German doctor who conducted a live autopsy on bodies in a studio in front of an audience. He also did a tv series about the different systems of the human body (digestive, circulation, sexual organs, etc) which was aired on SBS last year, using a donated cadaver.

Well, he's back. It's a new series called Gunther's ER, where they look at different types of injuries or ailments, and how the doctors deal with them. Tonight's episode is about massive blood loss. *bounces excitedly* I love this show. The faces of the donated cadavers are covered so they can't be identified, and they're cut open right there in front of the audience.

Oh, in case you're interested, here's a clip from last year's "Anatomy For Beginners".

It's a terrific show. I have both the Anatomy For Beginners and Autopsy dvds.
